Anysphere, the company behind the AI-powered code editor Cursor, has acquired AI coding assistant Supermaven. This acquisition will enable Anysphere to launch an enhanced version of its Tab AI model, known for its speed, context-awareness, and intelligence, especially with long code sequences.
Supermaven, founded by Jacob Jackson (previously of Tabnine and OpenAI), brings advanced capabilities through its in-house AI model Babble, noted for low latency and high capacity for understanding extensive code. With over 35,000 developers on board and prior funding of $12 million from Bessemer Venture Partners, OpenAI co-founder John Schulman, and others, Supermaven’s technology and team will now focus on strengthening Cursor.
Anysphere, co-founded by Michael Truell, has received significant market interest, with recent valuations estimated at $2.5 billion from top investors. The demand for AI coding tools is booming, with industry projections suggesting a $27 billion market by 2032.
