Dash0, a new observability startup, aims to address the rising costs of observability in cloud operations. While observability remains one of the highest cloud expenses, Dash0 seeks to improve cost transparency rather than drastically cut prices. Built on the open-source observability framework OpenTelemetry (OTel), Dash0 provides detailed insights into cost distribution across services, developers, and applications.
The startup recently raised $9.5 million in seed funding led by Accel, with participation from Dig Ventures. Founder Mirko Novakovic, who previously founded Instana (acquired by IBM
for $500 million), leads Dash0 with several former Instana team members. Dash0’s approach focuses on clear pricing and enhanced visibility to help ops teams manage complex cloud architectures efficiently.
