Symbiotic Security, a developer-focused security startup, has raised $3 million in seed funding to support its mission of helping developers identify and fix security issues as they code. Unlike other tools that primarily cater to security teams, Symbiotic emphasizes proactive learning, enabling developers to address potential vulnerabilities before code reaches the repository, speeding up development and reducing friction.
Launched earlier this year, Symbiotic’s MVP initially targeted infrastructure-as-code languages like Terraform, with plans to expand support to popular languages such as Python and JavaScript. The tool integrates seamlessly into developers’ workflows, offering real-time guidance similar to code completion tools and aiming to resolve issues during coding rather than in later review stages.
Symbiotic’s approach not only detects and fixes vulnerabilities but also trains developers with short, relevant lessons, enhancing their security knowledge on the job. Over time, the company envisions leveraging this data to build advanced remediation models. The seed round includes backing from Lerer Hippeau, Axeleo Capital, and Factorial Capital.
